Merritt Picked for Indigenous All Stars
Souths.com.au - 20 Nov 2009
Rabbitohs outside back and South Sydney junior Nathan Merritt has been selected in the Indigenous All Stars team to take on the NRL All
Stars in the inaugural All Stars game in 2010.
The best indigenous Rugby League team has been selected by the fans of the game by public vote to play against the NRL All Stars at Skilled
Stadium on the Gold Coast on Saturday 13 February 2010.
Merritt was the popular choice for the side, earning the opportunity to represent his people after putting together four consecutive stellar
seasons which has seen him rack up 64 tries over the past four years in the red and green.

Civoniceva tips Slammin' Sam for stardom with Bunnies
Glenn Jackson | November 17, 2009
VETERAN Kangaroos prop Petero Civoniceva believes South Sydney-bound Sam Burgess will ''take the NRL by storm''.
Civoniceva, who was stood up by the 20-year-old English player in the match in which he broke the record for the most Test caps for an
Australian forward, did not mind admitting that the youngster had a big future in the NRL after producing arguably a best-on-field
performance in a beaten side.
''What a weapon,'' Civoniceva said. ''He was unbelievable. He's going to be so good for our competition. It's pretty exciting that we can
get a player of his calibre wanting to test himself out in our comp.

Australia gives England a pasting

AUSTRALIA 46 ENGLAND 16
IT might not erase the bitter memories his moment of madness that cost Australia the World Cup, but Kangaroos fullback Billy Slater
extinguished some of them by effectively delivering the Kangaroos the Four Nations.
Australia ran out comfortable 46-16 winners over England in the end, but not before trailing 16-14 early in the second half. And it was
Slater who engineered it, scoring three second half tries and setting up another to ensure the tournament favourites secured the trophy.

Burgess Scores a Double in Four Nations Final
SSFC 15 Nov 2009
Rabbitohs 2010 recruit Sam Burgess has scored two tries in the Four Nations Final today (Sunday Sydney time), despite his English side going
down 46 points to 16 to Australia.
The Kangaroos piled on 32 points in the final 26 minutes of the game to secure a convincing win, however the final score line did not
reflect the effort put in by the Englishmen.
Burgess impressed all and sundry with his two-try performance in this Four Nations Final, with both tries coming under the posts.

It's Monsters Inc. at Redfern
By Dean Ritchie 6th Nov 2009 - Photograph: Brett Costello
Big boppers ... South Sydney's forwards train at Redfern.
THEY were one of toughest and most intimidating packs of the modern era.
The fearsome 1989 Souths pack - under coach George Piggins - contained some of rugby league's hardest men, such as Les Davidson, Mario
Fenech, Ian Roberts, Michael Andrews, David Boyle and Tony Rampling.
But when it comes to size and muscle, that pack has nothing on the one the Rabbitohs will trot out in 2010 led by new buys David Taylor and
Englishman Sam Burgess.
John Lang's new model pack is 10kg per man heavier than their 1989 rivals. Only Ian Roberts weighed more than 100kg, while all the forwards
next year - barring hooker Issac Luke - will top the century mark.

How bread loaf could save Souths club without poker machines
Staff Writer The Daily Telegraph October 20, 2009
THE sale of a fresh loaf of bread is the key to the future of South Sydney Leagues Club operating without poker machines.
Sydney City Council was told last night the early morning sale of fresh milk and bread to customers from a supermarket being built within the club is critical to the viability of the building and the club's success.
The operators of the IGA supermarket, on the ground floor of the club in Redfern, said the early sale of fresh produce was critical to their business. The building developers want the council to allow it to open at 7am.
It is claimed that without the support of IGA as a keystone tenant the future of the entire development opposite Redfern Oval could collapse.
